Nagaland Police will conduct a Facebook live awareness programme on June 26 to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, in an effort to strengthen the State’s response to drug abuse and narcotics trafficking in Nagaland and the wider Northeast.
The programme will be broadcast on the official Nagaland Police Facebook page from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM. It is open to school students, college and university youth, NGOs and civil society members across the State. Organisers said the live format is meant to reach people who may not be able to attend an in person event, while still allowing them to ask questions and engage directly with senior police officers and resource persons.
According to the police, Nagaland’s proximity to the Golden Triangle and its position along major narcotics trafficking corridors of the Northeast have left the State especially vulnerable to drug trafficking and rising substance abuse among young people. The programme aims to raise awareness about the health, social and legal consequences of drug abuse, inform the public about provisions under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, highlight avenues for treatment and rehabilitation, and stress the role of community participation, parental vigilance and youth leadership in building a drug free Nagaland.
Schools and colleges have been encouraged to arrange group viewing for students, while NGOs engaged in de addiction and rehabilitation work have been invited to take part actively in the live chat.
Heads of schools, principals of colleges, NGO representatives and members of the public have been requested to tune in and submit their questions through the comments section. These will be taken up by the panel during the interactive segment.
Nagaland Police also appealed to the press and electronic media to give the programme wide publicity so that the message reaches every school, college, NGO and household across the State.
