Nagaland secured more than Rs 30 crore in corporate social responsibility commitments at the Nagaland Connect 2026 CSR Conclave held at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi on June 23, as the state made a high-profile pitch to redirect national CSR investment toward its northeastern frontier.
The conclave, organised by the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) under the theme ‘Forging Partnerships, Creating Impact,’ produced 15 Letters of Interest and formal CSR commitments handed over to IDAN in the presence of Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Ministers TR Zeliang and Y Patton, and other state government representatives.
A State Pitching for Its Share of Corporate Investment
A roundtable co-organised by IDAN and CSRBox brought together more than 40 companies and resulted in the signing of Memoranda of Understanding, Letters of Intent, and Statements of Commitment. IDAN Chairman and Advisor to the Chief Minister Abu Metha noted that Nagaland currently receives disproportionately lower CSR funding compared to more developed states, calling the state “fertile ground for innovative partnerships.”
CSRBox conducted a context-setting session at the roundtable highlighting emerging trends and opportunities for corporate engagement. The discussions were structured around six priority sectors: health, nutrition, and WASH and sanitation; education, livelihoods and skilling; rural development; sports and youth development; environment, biodiversity and climate resilience; and gender equality, inclusion and digital access.
Rio Reframes CSR as Strategic Opportunity
Chief Minister Rio used the conclave to reframe how corporations should view engagement with Nagaland. He described CSR as “an instrument of equity” rather than a box-ticking compliance exercise, and pointed to the state’s young population, its strategic position under India’s Act East Policy, and the Nagaki Incubation City initiative as assets that make it an attractive partner.
“Nagaland today is not merely a destination for assistance, it is a destination for opportunity,” Rio said. He also confirmed that the government has established a single-window mechanism through IDAN to facilitate and monitor CSR partnerships, citing education, healthcare, livelihoods, sports, environmental sustainability, women’s empowerment, and youth development as the state’s top priority areas for incoming investment.
Support Framework for Incoming Partners
IDAN assured participating companies of comprehensive facilitation support, covering project identification, regulatory clearances, partnership development, and ongoing monitoring of CSR initiatives. The assurance was designed to lower the barrier for companies unfamiliar with operating in the northeast.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Additional Secretary Vineet Kumar, according to Morung Express.
