Alleged OpenAI legal correspondence follows
The story did not end with the original social-media post.
In subsequent posts, Schroeder published screenshots purporting to show correspondence with an entity identified as “Legal (OpenAI).”
One of the screenshots is presented as an email titled “Request Regarding Social Media Content.”
The purported correspondence says the company is contacting Schroeder about a recent social-media post that “attributes private communications to our CEO” and claims the post has created public confusion and a risk of reputational and commercial harm.
The purported OpenAI legal representative then asks Schroeder to voluntarily remove the post and says that compensation for his cooperation is a possibility.
The message also asks him to treat the communication as confidential and to respond within 48 hours.
Schroeder appears to continue the exchange
Rather than removing the material, Schroeder subsequently posted another purported email exchange.
In one screenshot, Schroeder writes to the alleged OpenAI legal representative:
“I’m so sorry about all the posts. Is compensation still on the table?”
The purported response from “Legal (OpenAI)” says compensation is “not necessarily out of the picture” and proposes discussing the matter over Zoom.
The response also says:
“We know you’re probably going to post this too, so let’s dispense with the formalities.”
Schroeder then published that correspondence as another Instagram post.
The continued publication of the alleged correspondence has fueled further discussion online, with users debating whether the exchange is genuine, satirical or a combination of real events and comedic presentation.
Jake Schroeder confirms the material to Afonews.com
To establish whether the material was genuine, Afonews.com contacted Schroeder directly through Instagram.
Afonews.com asked Schroeder whether the screenshots and correspondence published on his account were genuine and whether the publication could report on the matter and reproduce relevant screenshots with credit.
Schroeder replied:
“Yes! It’s real 😂.”
Afonews.com then separately asked whether the relevant screenshots from his public posts could be reproduced with proper attribution. Schroeder agreed.

In the newly posted screenshot, the sender identified as “Legal (OpenAI)” tells Schroeder: “The best we can offer is $500 and a branded crew neck.” The message then asks him to provide his clothing size and mailing address.
Schroeder captioned the post, “I’m genuinely at a loss for words.”
The new post adds another layer to the ongoing controversy, which began with Schroeder’s viral posts about an alleged conversation involving Sam Altman and later purported correspondence with OpenAI’s legal team.
